The Hallmark Channel, which is known for running a steady stream of Christmas movies during the holiday season, ran an advertisement from a wedding website called Zola. The commercial, featuring a lesbian couple's wedding ceremony and kiss, appeared on the channel beginning on December 2, 2019. However, following protests by conservative groups, such as One Million Moms, Hallmark decided to pull four of the advertisements from rotation. The mission of One Million Moms is to “fight against indecency.”
While the decision to pull the advertisement appeased some conservative critics, it upset Zola, members of the LGBTQ community, and supporters of gay rights. The backlash forced Hallmark to reverse its decision for a second time and reinstate the ads. Hallmark also issued a statement affirming its support for diversity and progressiveness.
