GM CMO on How Pandemic is Changing Marketing

Deborah Wahl, the first female chief marketing officer for General Motors has faced a major challenge early on in her tenure. The pandemic has changed her perspective on how to approach marketing. So reports Marketing Dive.

stick people 2324009 640The pandemic has dramatically shortened the timeline for innovation from several years to, in some cases, just a few weeks. To help provide relief during the pandemic, GM partnered with medical device firm, Ventec Life Systems, to produce ventilators. Wahl’s team, all on voluntary time, has quickly pivoted to manufacturing resources to produce the ventilators. 

"I think that story about the ventilators shows the key changes we've made in terms of, how do we work together in a more agile place, how do you address a major process change in 18 days?” Wahl said, according to Marketing Dive. “You're seeing a series of new tenets that are being launched, basically week-after-week, that are addressing this change and transformation, I think that pace is what we're going to need as we go through all the uncertainties coming forward."
