Facebook Takes Steps to Understand Its Impact on the 2020 Elections

Facebook has come under fire repeatedly for not doing enough to prevent the spread of disinformation during elections. Now, the company says it is taking steps to understand how the platform is influencing this year’s election. So reports Business Insider.

To help find out, the company is planning to pay thousands of users to take part in an independent study. The results of the study, however, wont be ready until the middle of 2021.

Observers applauded Facebook for finally taking steps to be more transparent, but some wondered why the company waiting until just two months before the election to take this step. They also fear the social network could use the study to downplay the level of political misinformation, or its impact.
