3 Marketing Tactics That May Be Hurting Your Brand

Questionable marketing tactics, such as certain emotional-trigger based marketing tactics, often lead to refund requests or other headaches that can hurt your business and your brand’s reputation. So writes Lisa Collum, CEO of Top Score Writing, Inc., in a column for Entrepreneur.

  • Displaying revenue screenshots. This a toxic marketing strategy may help short-term sales but discourage high-end clients. It can also hurt the potential for more customers in the long run. Instead of focusing on revenue screenshots, focus on serving the customer.
  • Sharing client wins without attribution. Consumers, especially ones you don’t have a relationship with, are generally skeptical when you share successes of unnamed clients. And those clients may well be real and have legitimate reasons to remain anonymous, you likely have other clients that would be happy to share their successes and get a shoutout by name.
  • Marketing results from years ago. “Growth-focused entrepreneurs stay at the forefront of their industries. They don't get a result and market those wins for years without working on getting more results.”
