The Chinese Social Media App, which was bested by only WhatsApp, was banned for security concerns. Owned by the Chinese Firm ByteDance, TikTok allows users to post short videos of up to 15 seconds long. The app appeals to the younger crowd. The main feed caters to what the user likes, which is determined by the app’s algorithm that keeps track of what the user watches most and for how long the user watches it.
Huawei, another Chinese tech giant, has been banned or blacklisted by the U.S. for allegedly spying and its potential as a security threat. TikTok and ByteDance have been accused of illegally and secretly collecting data from U.S. citizens and sending it to China. TikTok is currently still banned, but not blacklisted.
