All marketers can learn from what is happening with professional sports leagues amid the pandemic. Instead of playing in front of large crowds at packed stadiums, or in bars and restaurants, they’re watching teams plan in empty stadiums. To fill the void of human interaction, fans are turning to Reddit.
For example, the r/baseball community saw a 276% increase in views. The NF hasn’t even started its season, yet r/nfl had a 62% increase in views. “Celebrating sports on social media has become a subculture unto itself especially now that fans can’t go to stadiums,” said Dan Gould, Reddit head of partner insights and research.
Marketers of all type should pay attention to changing consumer and human behavior to gain an edge amid the pandemic and beyond.
